Rensselaer- Richard F. Reilly, age 88 years, died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Hospice Inn in St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Rensselaer, he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Mary Delaney Reilly.
Mr. Reilly was a graduate of St. John’s Academy in Rensselaer, Siena College and Albany Law School. In addition to being in private practice for over 40 years, he was the Rensselaer City Court Judge as well as Corporation Counsel for the City of Rensselaer and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary E. (Roberts) Reilly; six children, Kevin (Philomena) of Saratoga Springs, Mary of Rensselaer, Joanne Walsh (Peter) of Colorado Springs, CO., Richard Jr. (Maureen) of Schodack, Christine Regels (Neal) of Delmar and Kathleen Brust (James) of Altamont; 14 grandchildren, Kristy Connor (Aaron), Erin Phillips (Michael), Brendan Reilly, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Peter Jr., John, Caroline and Megan Walsh, Stephen Reilly, Bridget and Patrick Regels and Anna and Matthew Brust; and two great-grandchildren, Elena and Lily Connor. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Anne Reilly, Joan Sheldon and brother-in-law Bruce Sheldon along with many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Patrice, his granddaughter, Shannon and brothers, Joseph V. (Anne), Thomas J. (Ann), Paul J., William J. and William H. Reilly. A Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Church, Herrick Street Rensselaer. All are welcome to attend. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush. There will be no evening calling hours.
