Life Story for Barbara M. Carter (Furlong)

Barbara M. Carter (Furlong)

Carter, Barbara Mary: Sep 14/1943 – Sep 5/2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Barbara Mary Carter [Furlong].
Barbara was a generous, feisty, Red Hat warrior who in spite of a long debilitating illness, was steadfast in fulfilling that which she deemed most important: her role as a mother to her son Damien Carter.

Born in Chicago, Barbara was raised in Rensselaer, graduated from Van Rensselaer High School and attended New York State University at New Paltz. She was an adjunct professor at Labouree Jr. College in Quincy, MA. Having retired from Children’s Hospital in Boston as a neurology technician, she returned to the Albany area in 2007 and worked part time in the same capacity at Albany Medical Center for five years.

Barbara is pre-deceased by her parents Margaret and Robert Furlong Sr., her siblings Therese Furlong, Frances Robinson, Alice Ferguson, Sheila Furlong, Robert Furlong Jr. and William Furlong.

She is survived by her son Damien, her grandchildren Benjamin and Nathaniel Carter; her sisters Roberta Teixeira and Carol Mousseau; her dear friend Erminia Bauer and her son Joshua Bauer; nieces Cheryl Reidy, Kelly Tumlinson and Jeanette Furlong; nephews Lionel Ferguson, Gary Teixeira, Mark Furlong, Daryl Peagler, William Furlong Jr. and Peter Furlong; several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family members would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Thomas Smith MD, for his constant, compassionate and skillful services.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 12 from 4-7p.m. at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer, NY 12144.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 13 at 11a.m. at the Church of the Redeemer 1249 Third Street Rensselaer, NY 12144.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to: St. Jude Research Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105-3678

Rest in peace, Barbara.
